BALTIMORE CHORAL ARTS PRESENTS: SACRED HERITAGE featuring the Duruflé Requiem, works by Reena Esmail and Benjamin Britten

Baltimore Choral Arts Society, led by Music Director Anthony Blake Clark, opens its 59th season with Sacred Heritage, a concert pairing the Duruflé Requiem with works by Benjamin Britten and Reena Esmail. The chorus will perform at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, 5200 N Charles Street, Baltimore MD 21210, at 3pm on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024.

The Duruflé will feature a lush accompaniment by organist Daniel Aune, along with solo performances by mezzo-soprano Lucia Renata Bradford and bass-baritone James Mayo III.

Education and collaboration are important themes in this concert, which will begin with a performance by high school students from Choral Arts’ CoroLAB program, directed by Kellie Zephir. They will also be joining the chorus to perform Reena Esmail’s See Me, a creative piece that combines Sanskrit and English text in a modern setting.

“Working with the high school students is an invigorating reminder of why we do what we do,” says Maestro Clark. “Choral music is unique in its ability to bring diverse groups of people together to focus on a common outcome. It is such a joy to see the impact that this music can have on young singers.”

Prior to the concert, Clark will be leading an intimate pre-concert lecture at 2pm at the Cathedral. All audience members are invited to join this “Choral Conversation” to gain additional insight into the music and rehearsal process.

Tickets start at $25; Discounts available for students and seniors, kids under 12 free
